Dear All,

Mz problem is that I have a LAN with several XP Home PC-
s. Most of them has shared folders and printer. Until
recently everything has gone well, but in the last days I
realized that I cannot connect to the shared folder on
the way My Networks -> Workgroup Computer -> Computer
(eg. Server) -> Shares, because when I select the Server
computer I got an Access Denied error. But if I one a new
window, and I point to an exact share eg. \\Server\docs
then it works fine, and I can also print to shared
printers.

This symptome concerns only to a few PC. I do not realize
significant difference between them.

Thanks,
Zoltan

SYMPTOMS
On Windows XP-based computers that are configured as members of a workgroup
in a peer-to-peer network environment, you may experience one or more of the
following behaviors:
a.. You cannot access shared folders or files.
b.. You cannot locate other computers in the workgroup.
c.. You receive the following error message when you double-click the
workgroup in My Network Places:

Hi!

I tried what you have suggested, but the NetBios over
TCP/IP was already allowed, and the services was running.

The interesting thing is that, once it worked perfectly,
but after a while on two PC it stopped working. No idea why.

Any other help, suggestion?

Zoltan,

Does this problem occur on multiple computers? On all the computers other than
the server? Or just on specific computers? Please be specific.

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with each ipconfig listing.

From each client computer, open a command window and run "net view @Target"
where @Target = server name. Please describe precisely what error messages you
get.

This could be a browser problem.

The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time.

You can download Browstat from either:
<http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window.

Please provide browstat information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\browstat.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify each computer by name and operating system.

For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
