strange error messages

I have purchased a "program" that is actually an Access database. It doesn't
like to run under XP and / or Access 2002, so the developer sent me a
converted ".mde" file.

At first, it gave the following messages when clicking buttons.

(it's a shame you can't cut and paste text from an error message, or paste a
screen capture here)

"The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced
the following error: The object doesn't contain the Automation object '|.' "

and

"The object doesn't contain the Automation object '|'.

You tried to run a Visual Basic procedure to set a property or method for an
object. However, the component doesn;t make the property or method available
for Automation operations."

MS Knowledge base returns a hit when asked for an exact phrase match from
the first error, but it's not an exact match and doesn't help.

Now, the strange part. After a few installs, the database started working on
my laptop. Despite doing more or less the same thing at home, it doesn't.
The laptop is XP Home, the home PC is XP Pro. Both have the same version of
XP, SP2.

Stranger still (to me at least), when I network the two PCs, the laptop can
run the file on the desktop, but not the reverse.

There must be some useful clues in here. The developer has been fairly
helpful, but can't reproduce the problem. I can see how this happens as one
of my computers works, but the other doesn't, and it seems to have to do
with Access (or it's local environment) more than the database program.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks,

John

It's not obvious, but if you mouseclick into a message balloon and
type Ctrl-C it will in fact copy the message in text to the clipboard.

I tried that last night, but paste is not available from the edit menu for
this plain text msg. Going to 'office clipboard' I see the graphic, but it
wont paste here. In an HTML message in Outlook, it is as if I've used
alt-prt screen..a graphic of the box.

I tried to repeat it just now, and nothing goes to the clipboard.

This would be very useful. Is there some setting I should fiddle with?

Drat. It seems that was available once but with Microsoft's obsession
with web enabling everything, it's gone! Sorry!

I'm using XP and Office XP.

I'd sure like to be able to do this. Lord knows how many times I've tried to
type an error message verbatim into Google.
