Strange document title problem in Word 97

I am not able to do a save-as command in Word 97. It only allows me to

type one letter for the file name. My computer is otherwise operating
properly. Anyone ever see this problem before?

This problem occurs when Word is set to (Windows 95) compatibility mode in
Windows XP. Instructions from Office MVP Beth Melton for correcting this:

To rectify:

- Locate WinWord.exe
- Right-click and select Properties
- Select the Compatibility tab
- See if you have a Compatibility Mode set
- If set remove the tick in "Run this program in compatibility mode"
