Strange Desktop Icon / Shortcut

Guest

I'm using Windows XP, Service Pack 2.

There is an Icon (Shortcut) on my desktop named "Document Shortcut.shb" that
I can not remove. When I click on it (right or left click) Win XP closes for
a few seconds then reopens; not a reboot, but the screen goes black the task
bar at the bottom of the screen disappears then it all comes back.

I've tried deleting it using the DOS "del" command via the cmd window. The
"del" function indicates it can't fine the file even though it is visible in
the directory.

I'd appreciate some help removing this from the desktop. It would also be
interesting to know what's it is and how it got there.

Thanks,
Frank

When you try to delete the file from a command prompt, use "quotes" around
the filename and extension.

"Document Shortcut.shb"

You can also just use DEL *.SHB. If its still undeletable, enter ATTRIB
*.SHB -s -r -h to ensure that its not set as read-only, hidden or a system
file.

These types of files can be used maliciously by virus's and other malware.
Ensure your antivirus software is up to date and that you perform a full
system scan.
