Strange characters appearing on web-sites

I am getting strange characters on my screen in web-sites, e.g. these were
on a Microsoft web-site.

Why Itâ?Ts A Bad Idea...

uses a â?ocross-view diffâ? technique, which is very different from the
usual â?ocross-time diff against known goodâ? approach

What setting may have changed that I need to restore? USA logon, USA
websites, USA regional settings...

Hi Mich :)

Try these steps and see if they help:

If you have the Google Toolbar or any other 3rd party toolbars installed,
disable it and see if that helps. If not, uninstall and reinstall it. If
you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it.

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files

Make sure the language you have selected to use is installed.

Check in IE>Tools>Internet Options>General>Accessibility
and Control Panel>Accessibility Options>Display

For normal viewing nothing should be checked in these sections.

Go to>View>Encoding
Make sure the Auto Select is not checked, and language you want to use is
selected.

If you have more than one language installed, check to be sure the one you
want to use is at the top of the list under Languages on the Tools>Internet
Options>General tab

also...

Zone Alarm (perhaps Pro) may also cause this problem.

FYI a certain version of Zone Alarm has been blamed for that
symptom before. I'm not sure exactly what it is that it does which
makes IE render HTTP control information like that though.

Hope this helps :)

It was set to High Contract, Black large under Control Panel>Accessibility
Options>Display; I set it back to Windows Standard and refreshed the page
and it renders properly now. I have no idea why or how this setting was
changed!

Thanks for the advice.
