Strange characters appear in .doc

Hello all,

When I open my existing document (a print form with some checkbox kind
of characters on it) in Word 2000 on my new XP pc, it displays these
checkbox characters as some kind of 'P' character. On other pc's on
our network it shows up fine. It's a Dutch Windows XP Professional
Edition with the Dutch Office 2000.

What can I do about this?

Is this the reversed "P" in the toolbar at the top? It' s right next to the
"100%" box: "Show/Hide 'P'"

That's not it. My special checkbox character gets replaced with the strange P.
