Strange Bluescreen Message

Whilst trying to run the game Flyff (Fly for Fun) on Windows XP Home Edition
(with all the latest updates) I recently had a bluesreen problem that seems
to occur every time I get about 5-10 minutes into the game.
The computer crashes to the bluescreen, and, apart from the usual
description "increase memory size, contact administrator" etc., it comes up
with the following technical readout:

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0xF9590801,0xF9026B04,0x00000000)

On restarting, I checked event viewer, and found that the following event
concurred with the system block:

Date: 14/01/2007
Time: 18.52.04
Type: Error
User: N/A
Computer: HORUS
Origin: System Error
Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f6511801, parameter3
a8827b04, parameter4 00000000.

I have tried cleaning the registry and doing a full virus/spyware scan, as
well as manually looking for the Backdoor.Haxdoor trojan, known to cause a
similar result. All scans where negative, and I have had no success so far.

Any help on assisting me in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Uninstall and reinstall the program and see if that helps. Also, check to
see if an updated version of the program is available.

Check with the tech support for the game for any suggestions. Seems like
there is a clear connection between the game and the BSOD's.

As an aside, I recommend against using a registry cleaner. Unless you are
very knowledgeable with the registry and use a cleaner only to make
suggestions about what to change, and then you decide what should be done,
using a registry cleaner can cause more harm than good, either immediately
or sometime down the line.

You might also want to post to the games newsgroup. Someone there might
have had experience with this game.

In addition to the other advice given, you may want to try an updated
video driver. Or alternate settings in the game. Often there is a INI
file you can edit, for dealing with crashes and other bugs.

Also: what does dxdiag tell you. Does it crash on the spinning cube
tests?

Well, I tried re-installing the game, fully updating it, reinstalling and
fully updating video drivers and installing the latest directx. I ran all the
directx tests, and all were succesful. I've expanded my virtual memory to
2Gb. The problem is still occuring however, and there doesn't appear to be
any kind of config file in the game folder.

Thanks for all your help so far. I'll keep trying with various methods.

It is possible you have a hardware problem. Test the RAM with
memtest86+ (www.memtest.org) Open the case and look for bulging or
leaking capacitors (they look like little soda cans, and even the
tiniest bulge is trouble). Blow out all the dust (overheating issue).
Check that *all* the fans spin properly. Check that neither the
processor nor the video card get painfully hot to the touch during
gameplay.

Thanks for your help all, I found the problem.

Apparently my firewall, Kerio Personal Firewall, was causing a conflict with
the ingame hack-guard system. I replaced Kerio with another firewall, and now
it works fine.

Thanks for your help, and sorry for the trouble.

Thanks for the followup. And solution. Followups are all too rare.
