strange blue tool bar invades ie6

a strange blue tool bar attached itself to my ie 6
browser, and i don't seem to be able to get rid of it

this is clearly an ie 6 problem, it happened recently,
over a year since this computer was purchased and it came
with ie5

ie 6 was installed later, downloaded from microsoft

why doesn't microsoft allow a direct question instead of
shunting us off to this chat site?

No, it is not an IE problem. It is your problem when visiting a web
site where you let it download some program to install on your computer.
Or it is your problem of installing "free" software that had a covert
payload (i.e., spyware or malware). Time to learn how to run a full
scan using a recently updated anti-virus product and how to use
anti-spyware products, like Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWShredder, and
HijackThis. Probably also time to visit the security settings in your
Internet security zone to ensure you are at least at the default Medium
level or, better, customize it to prompt you for anything that a web
site might request to download, like ActiveX controls, fonts, etc. Also
visit the Internet Options under advanced options to make sure items
like on-demand update is disabled.

I'm sure Microsoft would be more than willing to listen to your trials
and tribulations ... and charge you for it. Of course, you might
actually might have a couple incident tickets still available for your
version of Windows so you could use those up to ask them questions.

If you want *free* support, you ask your nerdy sibling or friend, you
search the online help web sites and knowledgebases, you search the
newsgroups, and then you post in the newsgroups.
