Strange behavior XP Home

M

mikey

XP Home started acting strange. Most noticeable is 1) the scrollbar is jerky
and reluctant to move smoothly (in any application, Word, IE...),
2) highliting blocks of text using the left mouse button, the highliting is
reluctant to go on, or often jumps off again (any program, Word,
Notepad...),
3) some windows taking long time to close, not allowing to be dragged etc...
Weird things !

AV scan and ad scans show all clear.

PC is Dell 256 MB Ram, CPU 2.53 GHz, XP Home (SP1). Currently Task Manager
shows: CPU Usage 0-4%, PF Usage 191 MB.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

From the symptoms you describe, my first thought is that you're having mouse
problems. Do you have a spare mouse you can switch out to see if that makes
any difference?

Well, well -- the mouse it was !! I had already checked the mouse, and
removed some fluff, with no improvement, so I forgot it.

Tip: Don't buy a Dell. First the RW/DVD Drive plays up, now the mouse.

I have to buy a 2nd Desktop PC soon - any recs for reliability ?

Thanks for the help.
