Strange behavior of "Outlook Express"

I am using Windows XP on Drive D:. When I open Outlook Express and click
the Newsgroup icon, I am presented with a "Newsgrups Subscription" dialog
box with the name of a single "Newsgroup", in it and nothing else (there is
no list of "Newsgroups"). If I highlight the Newsgroup and click
"Subscribe" the name of the newsgroup appears below the "Newsgroups" label
on the lefthand screen. If I click "Unsubscribe" it dissappears.

I have Windows XP installed on Drives D: E: and F: of my system Drive D is
the only Drive on which the problem appears. "Outlook Express" operates
properly on Drives E: and F:. Strangest of all I've gone baqk and restored
my last 5 backups (over 3 weeks) from Drive D:. All behave the same.
