I bought long time ago, almost immy after release, the Windows XP Pro.
I used it for more than 3 years with the legal code furnished by Microsoft .
Two days ago when updating, I downloaded all of them and at the end,
Microsoft asked me to purchase a genuine product.
I had the serial number with me at anytime.
I do not know the way to complain it by mail, as I could not find a free way
to get them.
I am not prepared to pay USD 35.00 for a problem which is not mine.
I understood that when you buy a genuine product you do not have to bother
anylonger.
Any hint how can I get this problem solved, please ????

Maybe you purchased a pirated product for a greatly
discounted price. Ring the Microsoft support office in
your area and explain the problem. This won't cost you
anything. Have your original receipt and the product
key ready.

Microsoft has hurt a lot of legitimate users with the so called
"nagulator' windows genuine advantage "update."

This bloody "conspiracy" theory is starting to wear a little thin ....

While there have been legitimate users incorrectly flagged, in many cases
users who *think* they have legitimate copies are finding out they got taken
by unscrupulous builders.
