Strange 1TB External Hard Drive Problem

HD = WDCaviar Black 1TB used as external.
External enclosure = Thermaltake BlacX open port (supposed to work with up
to 1TB drives.

Issue: Transferring multiple files ( zip files in quaintly more than 50
files, 10 to 100 MB each) hangs Explorer. Eventually I have to restart the
computer because Explorer can't be terminated. Sometimes I get 50% transfer
before the transfer hangs, sometimes 10-20, but it invariably does hang.
Strangely, transferring files from the drive to another drive does not end
up with this problem, no matter how many files I transfer.
I did check the drive with chkdsk and other utilities and no problem was
found.

There's another drive (500GB) I use with that port and I had no transfer
issues with it.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
