Stopping sound in PowerPoint presentation

Hello,

I have inserted some sounds in my PowerPoint presentation. I have set them
up to start when the sound icon is clicked. That works fine. But I would
also like to be able to stop the sounds with a mouse click, in case i don't
want the whole sound to play during the presentation.

So I choose "Custom Animation" and "Effect Options" and for the "Stop
Playing" option I choose "on click" (which is the default anyway). But the
sounds will not stop playing when I click! If I view the presentation and
click to start the sound, the sound keeps going until finished, no matter how
much I then click the mouse.

Solution?

You can insert a button and set its Action Settings to "Play" the sound
"[stop all sounds]"

I have the same problem (over and over in 12 slide shows with 10-20 slides
each). I really think this is a bug. I'm using PowerPoint for Office 2003.
Powerpoint didn't always work this way. .....

Any how, I'm not sure I understand David's work around (or else there's a
bug there as well). I am assuming that when David said create a button, he
meant an action button. When I create an action button my choices are "No
sound" or "Stop Previous Sound". I don't see "Stop All Sounds". Any advice?

You are right. It is [stop previous sound], but it does generally work to
stop the sound that is playing.
