Stopping "Disk Space" Popups

D

Dave Dickinson

I have a series of partitions on my drive. Many of them
are precisely the size I need them to be.

I keep getting message popups from the Sys Tray telling
me that I am running out of space on certain partitions
(I am currently getting messages from 3 partitions and
they pop up every few minutes). The message says:

"Low Disk Space

"You are running out of disk space on [volume (X:)]. To
free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary
files, click here."

How do I stop this happening (short of wasting disk space
by making the partitions larger than I want them to be?

The popup takes up valuable screen real estate, and
always seems to crop up just as I'm about to click on the
part of the screen where it is! (Particularly when I'm
using Photoshop etc) and then ties up my system looking
for stuff to delete and/or compress when there isn't
anything to be found!

It's driving me crazy! Please help!

Kind Regards
Dave

Yikes that would be annoying :( Try this.

Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \
CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer \
Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New > DWORD Value
Name the new value NoLowDiskSpaceChecks
Double-click this new value, and enter 1 as it's Value data
Close the registry editor
Log off, or restart Windows for the changes to take effect
Hope this helps.

Wow! Thanx for that!

I thought there might be some simple toggle somewhere
that I'd missed, but I'd never have thought of editing
the registry in this way (although I have forayed into
the registry on occasion, it's still largely terra
incognita to me!).

Thanx for that, it seems to have done the trick.

Kind Regards
Dave

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Task bar and Start Menu page - uncheck 'Warn When low on disk space'
and Apply
