Stopping desktop.ini

is doing it, from writing the desktop.ini file ?

No. If you don't want to see it, check "hide protected system files" in
Folder Options (Control Panel or from the Tools menu in any Explorer
windows).

Desktop.ini is a system file, used to record special characteristics of
the folder any copy is in (eg of Windows\Fonts or of My Pictures) and
the customisations applied to others. It is used by Explorer to decide
how the folder is to be displayed
