Stop WinXP SP2 from installing its own bluetooth software?!?!

I currently have a TRUST USB Bluetooth Adapter for my Windows XP PC.
Now, I have installed the actual TRUST software from the CD for the adapter,
but when ever I then put the actual USB adapter in, Windows then decides to
install its own software.

This then stops the other software from picking up that I've put in the
adapter, and only the windows xp software works, and to be honest, the
bluetooth software is rubbish!

I know this is the problem, because I tried it on my windows 98 PC... and it
installed its own software fine (the TRUST software) and worked perfectly.

Is there any way to stop windows from installing it's own software when I
put in the adapter, which would then allow me to use my trust software.

Please help!

Hi Fid,

The only times I have seen this problem, is if the USB device has been
connected before the software was installed. I would try un-installing
both the Windows and manufacturer drivers. Disconnect the device, then
reboot. Once you have rebooted, install the manufacturer's software.
It may/not ask you to connect the device at that time. If not, once
the software has finished installing, then connect the device.

Hiya,

Well, I followed the rules exactly as in the manual, I installed the
software and only connected the USB adapter when it said on both the screen
and manual.

When I did actually attach it (when it said), windows was actually
installing its own drivers to it WHILE the other software was finalising.

I also left it till after the installation of the software, inserted it,
same thing happened.

Any ideas?

Hello,
start with this
The only times I have seen this problem, is if the USB device has been
connected before the software was installed. I would try un-installing
both the Windows and manufacturer drivers. Disconnect the device, then
reboot.
After rebooting, goto the \windows\inf folder.
Ren bth.inf and bth.pnf.
Now you should be able to connect the device and install the manufacturer
software.

Thanks,
