Even with IE6 not running, WinXP tries to dial my ISP. I don't want WinXP to
automatically dial my ISP whenever there is no Internet connection. How do I
disable auto-redialing?

Hi...ok in Internet Explorer browser...go to "tools, internet options,
connections", then check the box that says..."never dial a connection". Hit
apply for good measure, then ok...and your problem should be corrected.

From a response by MVP Kelly Theriot to a similar question:
Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)
/Dial-Up Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all
locations and check off always ask me before auto dialing.
Also, Disable autodial while I am logged on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each
location for which you want the automatic dialing feature
to operate. Reboot.

Disable or Enable AutoDial (Line 91)

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type
the following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RAS Autodial\Addresses

You can delete any TCP/IP addresses that you see under this key.
Note that AutoDial can use IP addresses, DNS fully qualified domain
names (FQDN), and NetBIOS names.

Hi Maureen...What's the difference between what the 2 posters said? I had
the same problem, and I was advised pretty much the way "Why" said it. I
mean if the modem never dials a connection, that solves the problem doesn't
it, or should something else be done?

Control Panel - Internet Options - Connections page. Select 'Never dial
a connection' You will then need to dial it manually when wanted

After making the advised settings in Network Connections > Advanced >
Dial-up Preferences > Autodial, the damn thing still auto-dials. I guess
that's why Kelly had to come up with a registry hack for it. I haven't tried
that .reg file for disable yet...

Hard to believe that SP1 could be distributed without a fix for this obvious
problem.

No, Alex. That one doesn't work either. It's essentially the same one Why
previously advised via Internet Explorer. I already had that one set before
posting this thread.

BTW, your article about WinXP product activation is excellent!!

Guess what? Even Kelly's registry hack at line-91 of

didn't fix it!
