Hi,

How do I occasionally block "Outlook Express" from accessing the
internet
using Windows Firewall?
I tried to add "msimn.exe" to the exceptions list and Unchecked the
box.
But it is still able to access the internet.
What else i need to do?

Thanks

You could block ports 25 and 110.
Alternatively you could change the POP3 and SMTP
server names in your OE account to something invalid.

not really sure what you are trying to accomplish.
some user(s) you do not want to use the internet.
or just to stop OE under normal use to not use the internet.
if is the latter, just click the OFFLINE box under FILES.

Open Outlook Express | File | Check: Work Offline
OR
Open Internet Explorer | File | Check: Work Offline

Blocking one blocks the other one.

To Unblock..
Open Outlook Express OR Internet Explorer | File | UNCheck: Work Offline

Hi,

I have previously used Zonealarm as my firewall until Norton 2007 was
installed.
Norton would not install unless Zonealarm was removed.
I'm now using Windows Firewall.

Zonealarm always alerted me when any software goes online.
Windows firewall on the other hand only alerts me when using certain
software, not all.

To understand this transition from Zonealarm to Windows Firewall,
I wanted to know how I block certain software using Windows Firewall.
Outlook express was picked to understand this transition.

Thanks Pegasus, mikeyhsd, Wesley Vogel for Outlook specific solutions.

The Windows Firewall does not block any outgoing stuff, only incoming. It
is also not intrusive, I hardly even know that it's running. I had used
ZoneAlarm for years, ZA was always popping up asking me something. I don't
remember Windows Firewall asking me anything.
