Stop or pause group policy

Michael Waterman

Hello,

Is there a way to stop or pause group policy from
applying to a computer? I would like to use this for
unattended installations and stop the logon banner that
has been specified in the policy.

Thanks to all that respond!

all you have to do is go to the group policy and go to properties to
security. When you get to the computer or group uncheck apply this policy

Robert,

That's not what I had in mind. I would like a way to stop the policy
at the client side not the server. Imagine a situation when a GPO is
applied to about 3000 machines. When one of those machine is
reinstalled I can't just deny apply this policy to all clients :)

I did some experiments on the client-side extensions. And that seems
to work.... but I would like to know if there is a preferred method of
stopping GPO temporarily. perhaps a reg entry?

Thanks,
Michael

no you misunderstood me as well. Lets say you have domain computers as the
object to apply the group policy. But above that in the list, you add the
computer name you specify and click do not apply for that. I would keep the
policy to all the clients but would deny it for that one computer.

For example (user config not computer config), we have our screensaver set
in gp to automatically come on after 5 minutes. However, our CEO complains
and doesn't want that for him. So we have denied that policy for him and
his screensaver doesnt come on after 5 minutes.

Hi Agian,

Oh that's what you mean :)... okay I Understand now....

Anyway I did find a solution to my "Problem". I use a registry setting
in the group policy client extensions to stop the policy on the
client... It's now documented (As far as I know) but it works.

if you want to know more then just drop me an email
