Stop incoming mail

Is there a way I can stop incoming mail?

I want to stay on line, send mail - see online calendar availability - but
just dont want to be distracted with continuous incoming mail - is this
possible?

Turn off mail polling so Outlook won't check for mail every X minutes but
leave on the option to send mail immediately when connected. That way mail
will get sent when you try.
