Stop errors

the OP was as follows:

<quote>
I seem to be getting a bunch of fatal STOP errors recently, and I'm having
trouble figuring out why. I don't know the exact text of the message, but
it refers to SMBios.sys. My error log only shows the following: "The
computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000050
(0xfe560100, 0x00000001, 0xeec471a2, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000
[v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini051004-04.dmp."
There is no common program involved when these errors occur, nor is there
any commonality in the load on the machine; I've had this happen with no
programs open and nothing happening on the machine at all, I've had it
happen when ~15 windows were open, I've done extensive testing on the
memory and it checks out, and I've tried putting the hard drive under
strain - this also did not cause the STOP error. Anyone have any
suggestions on what could be checked to try and track this down?
</quote>

Also, later I posted this...

<quote>
Okay, I decided to write down the exact text of the message, and noticed
(for some reason I'd never read the message before, just cursed and shut
down) that this particular error is a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error.
I'm under the impression that this error is typically associated with a
hardware malfunction of some sort - is this true?
</quote>

Any suggestions on what could be done to try and track down what's causing
the problem?

Yup, already checked that whole Page_fault page on the MS KB, as well as a
link to some site www.aumha.org or something. I was not able to find
anything about my specific problem.

I don't know the exact text of the message, but it refers to SMBios.sys.
....
The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0xfe560100, 0x00000001, 0xeec471a2, 0x00000000).

Do a pstat -s | find /i "smbios"
and see if that third address is lies within its boundaries.

Hmm... I see that we don't really get to see the end point of the module.
Maybe you could get an upper bound on that by sorting the module list
on the Load Addr column and then verifying that there is no other loaded
module there. Unfortunately the Address is hex so what you really need
is a function which sorts hex addresses.

Another thing which might help is to use dumpchk with your mini dump
and see what pops up. Doing that might get you a better list of modules
than pstat -s too.
