When does your favorites sort? My list does not sort unless I do the sort.
Which menus sorts? My start menu does not sort unless I do the sort.

I manually sort my program menu lists and favorites. When I restart the pc
they go back into alphabetical order.

A tedious, but effective way to get any list in the exact order you want is to rename the files and
folders putting a number as the first character. The computer will always sort on numbers first,
then alphabet. If you plan to use more than 10 numbers, be sure to make number one as 01 or 20
will come ahead of 1. If you have a group of items you want together, give them the same number and
they will use the first letter as a secondary sort.

But this does not really solve the problem, and folders will still be above
individual links.

This website has a forum discussion about it:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/878580.html

There appears to be a problem with the registry:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microso ft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer
/MenuOrder/Favorites

Is there an entry named Order? If that entry is missing then I think that IE
will sort the "folder" alphabetically."

Anyway, running regedit is a bit too scary for me, and I wonder if there is
an easier way round.
