I have W2000 and have updated with SP3 and SP4. System is
Dell Optiplex GXa (266MHz,96MB). I addded a slave HD
(both HD's set as "CS" as per Dell) - even tried a
different slave drive - and I get the error message:
stop: 0x0000007B (0F841F84C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000,
0x00000000) when the W2000 startup bar gets to the half-
way point. If I disable the slave electrically and in
bios, Windows starts up just fine again.

I had a similar freeze after installing SP4. I also had
BLUESCREEN Error and driver + Stop messages in between
trying to restart or reboot using ER Disk [floppy. I've
reverted back to SP3 and older system is running fine. The
only device error I have is a usb drivers fault I'm trying
to rectify after an upgrade from W98 SE. W2000 Pro keeps
deleting and reverting back to older usb v.1 drivers and
configuration. I restarted using original floppy setup
disks then W2000 Pro CD and elected to repair plus check
drive, then system ran and I un-installed SP4 as I had
backed up as MS recommended.Try updating with an Emergency
Repair Disk before and after you modify or un-install.

GOOD LUCK!!
