Still need Zone Alarm?

Hi:

I am almost ready to install a router. My current firewall is the free
version of Zone Alarm. Should I disable Zone Alarm and use whatever fire
wall the router provides?
Jim

You can still use both, I recommend it! As your router firewall on prevents
inbound connections that you've designated in its setup, ZoneAlarm or other
3rd Party (not windows, not until Vista at least), will prevent and notify
you of both inbound/outbound connects, plus it will help keep PC A from
successfully attacking PC B or C or D, etc, depending on your network setup
and how many PC's are behind your router.

Jim,

If you have a NAT router for perimeter protection (with or without firewall
features), Zone Alarm is not totally redundant. Layered security encourages
using both, and more.

OK, this is the "belt and suspenders" approach to security...
Tomorrow is the date for the installation. One nice thing about being
retired is that I set my own schedule..

Yup, good advice.
Mine is a Linksys.. It has the magic buttons on the front which are said to
setup the router to access my dsl modem. I'll believe this when I see it.
