Still in strife

When I type (I'm a sloppy two fingered typist) I'm doing
something unconsciously with my left hand that hits a key
or combination of keys that results in the entire keyboard
changing its characters and I end up typing nonsense. The
only way to reverse this is by restarting my computer - a
real pain. Any idea about what I'm doing and how might I
reverse this weird function?

I'm a lousy two-fingered typist too, that is always hitting the wrong
key and having my typing interrupted with a window popping up, but I
have never done what you describe.

Is this a laptop with an "Fn" key? Maybe you're hitting
that.
