Hi,

Go to Start/Run/Regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers ion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Run

Look here for the program/folder in question. If listed, double click the
entry and put the full path name in quotes. And Verify that all the values
in these keys do not contain any incorrect, incomplete, or null entries
(such as "").

I reformated my HD today then did a clean install of XP
Pro.

Everything is working beautifully except...

Any time I shut down then then re-start (either Restart
or on power up) after XP is fully open, up pops a window
which is the folder containing the files of a music
editing program I installed.

I'm sure it must be something simple but I cannot figure
out how to prevent this.

????

Thanks,

There is one "dingbat" problem that has not been mentioned:

Shortcuts and Registry-entries which contain pathnames that
have spaces *must* be enclosed in quotation marks.

Errors are common in install-routines where this housekeeping
is missing. Eg: Install for W2K Scanner Driver updates for
HP Parallel-port scanners.

Check to ensure that all places where commands like:

"C:\Windows\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"

are properly enclosed in double-quotes.

Check both the Command-Line *and* the Path entries in the shortcut.
There can be screwups in either place.

The notorious "Windows opens an Explorer Window in the Program
Folder" occurs when *any* shortcut or Registry Entry that autostarts
a program in a subfolder off of the "Program Files" folder is missing
the required quotes. (The parser *stops* at Program, because
unless there are quotes, it doesn't know the space isn't the end of
the command.)

Hope this helps.

Best I can do for now. <tm>

Good catch!
