I'm running Windows XP home Edition. When my PC is up and
running I sometimes like to listen to music recorded on
my hard drive. However when I turn on my PC speakers I'm
getting a lot of static coming through the speakers even
before I play my music. This problem started a few weeks
ago after one of my last Microsoft updates. To top it all
of this problem doesn't happen all the time. Does anybody
have an answer?

Thanks
George

Problems that happen randomly usually stem from hardware, not software,
issues. Are you sure you're not putting your cell phone next to the
speakers or anything like that?

Thanks for your response Malke. No, I don't have any
electronic devices nearby. Is there any troubleshooting I
can do to trace the problem? Thanks.

Well, I guess the first place to start is to see what else is going on
when the problem happens. Are you consistently running particular
programs when the static occurs - like maybe two programs want to make
a sound at the same time? Have you moved your speakers closer to your
monitor? Does it happen with another set of speakers (assuming your
regular speakers aren't Klipsch or something expensive). Is the
connection on the back of the speakers (to the speakers or to the
computer) loose? That sort of thing.
