I have a xp & 2000 pc both have a static ip that I can't release. I am going
DHCP and it is not picking up a dhcp ip and it holding the static ip.

How do I get card to release and pick up a ip address?

1. Make sure DHCP is selected on the NIC card settings.

2. Open a command prompt and try ipconfig /release and then ipconfig
/renew

At the command prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter

then type ipconfig /renew and press enter

One thing. Say you set the IP address to 192.168.1.22 before using DHCP and
DHCP range is 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254, some routers will assign
192.168.1.22 to the NIC again making it appear as if DHCP is not working when
it actually is.

You can check the Leases handed out on your DHCP server to see if these 2 PCs
show up in the list.
