At startup it says 'windows failed to start...'

It has options of Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows normally

If I select either of these options it just returns to the same screen

I am travelling on business and don't have the startup disk. Is there any
other way to start?

i have a feeling the hdd has corrupt sectors and will not start correctly,
if you cant get anywhere and safe mode doesnt work at all try

spinrite

http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

of course , its not free, but it is worth it..
