Hi

When starting up windows the folder "Program" also starts up. I think this
is annoying, but I haven't figured out how to stop that. Please help!

Stef,

Method 1:

START | ALL PROGRAMS | STARTUP

Is there anything in there?

Method 2:

START | RUN | Type 'regedit' (without quotes) & press ENTER

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In the right pane:

Do you see the entry listed? If so, right-click & delete it

Make sure you back-up the key first:

Registry menu | Export Registry File...

Check the following key too:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Cose the registry editor

Method 3

What loads at StartUp. Instead of using msconfig use Autoruns.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting,
or you can can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck
you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than
editing the Registry. Another useful feature of the programme is that
you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information
about the item selected.

Hope this helps.

It's not in Autostart, and I can't find in the suggested register. What would
be name of the folder in the registry?

Look in the Regedit entries mentioned in the post by NC; look for
startup entries where the "Program Files" folder is in the path. Make
sure the paths are in quotes. Look at some of the other entries to see
where the quotes are placed. Notice that if there are switches, they
are outside of the quotes.

The "Program Files" is not listed in the registry, and it's not found in
"Autostart" either. There is no folder "Start up".

You might use a more comprehensive Startup utility called
AutoRuns provided by SysInternals. The download is here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
*Selecting the "Logon" (TAB) after AutoRuns is opened is
the quickest way to locate startup items.
What you are interested in locating is a "Fractured" or improperly
formatted call with the string \Program Files that is not bound by
Quotation marks.

StartUp is one word and there are a number of these folders. You need to
expand to include the full path.
