Andrew Duncan

I have a new IBM thinkpad G40 which was been working
fine, this morning on startup it loads the desktop but I
cannot click on any items on the desktop. When I access
the start menu the cursor changes from the pointer to the
hourglass and I cannot access the start menu. Any ideas
on where to go from here - I have restarted 5 times with
the same result. When I control-alt-delete there are no
applications running.

Many thanks,
Andrew

Try booting up in safe mode and then doing a full virus scan with your virus
software (hopefully with the most recent updates). If it's clean - and if
you are running WindowsXP try restoring to a few days ago and see if you get
past it. Lastly, depending on how new it is - you could be having hardware
trouble. A bad chip or cold solder joint that is showing the problem now
that the machine is breaking-in.
