Hello friends
i had windows xp in drive c:\ and i install vista in drive d:\
my active partition in c:\
i also have a image of xp (i create it with Norton Ghost)
i replace my windows xp with this image
after that i could not start vista (i know that my c partition should have a
folder name BOOT and it relates vista startup) i copy a folder from d:\ to
c:\ but i can not see vista startup dialogs. i also use vista startup
recovery from it's DVD but it didn't solve problem.
now i want to build a new boot manager for vista.
what should i do?

I had the same problem, although if i booted the machine with the dvd
in the drive, but didn't select 'boot from disc' it boots fine, are
you getting a missing bootmgr message?

If you can get it to boot, I would pass on the suggestion which was
given to me, which was to download VistaBootPro (google it) which
apparently will take over the boot process.

Check out the 'bootrec.exe' command via your Vista DVD.
Boot from your DVD and choose the 'Command Prompt' option, after entering
System Recovery.

bootrec /?

eg

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

M

mikeyhsd

download and install VistaBootPro.
it runs on xp and vista.
it has options to recreate multi boot menu.

when you restored xp you wiped out the boot menu.

Thanks, I tried VistaBootPro last night but it failed to fix my boot
issues, I'll give ytour suggestion a try, sounds promising :)
