Startup Issues

My computer's been annoying me lately.
Every time i start up, it loads normally untill it gets
to the desktop. Once at the desktop, the cpu stops
working for about a minute, and then finishes loading all
services.During the hang, Norton Anti Virus auto protect
has a red X through it, and my LAN isn't connected. Once
the computer finishes,NAV AP is enabled, the LAN
connects, and Zone Alarm Loads.(the comp. runs fine after
that) The total startup time is approx 2min.
i have XP home, sp1,
900mhz AMD duron
256 mb RAM
compaq presario laptop 700
I use a linksys router with Verizon DSL
the only startup programs I have are NAV 2003 and Zone
Alarm Pro.
I can open most programs during the minute when the cpu
is idle, but not internet or NAV.
Also, in the task manager, there is no user assigned to
processes. Usally, it says SYSTEM, or NETWORK SERVICE,
etc.
Ive defraged, bootvis, chdsk'd, etc.. to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I've seen situations where there could be a network delay.
This is when your PC is trying to acquire itself an IP
address when the TCP settings have "obtain an IP address
automatically".
To rule this out as the cause, temporarily modify this
setting to "Use the following IP address" and set it to
192.168.0.2.
Also, if necessary, selectively disable your startup progs
to see how they affect the situation. Even the AV and zonealarm.

Any mapped drves? May be it's trying to reestablish
network connections. Do you see userinit.exe running
during this delay? On my PC that prog runs for about
6 or 7 seconds (at least that I can meassure)
