I get an error message upon startup that reads something
like:

Error loading /SystemRoot/system32/ansi.SYS

What can I do to make this stop appearing?

Find where it is loaded and remove (or remark) it. Possibly:
legacy config.sys file in root of "system" drive
config.NT file
somewhere in the registry (?). Search.
