startup duration

My Windows Mail (Vista x64) most time immediatly starts after doubleclicking
the desktop icon, but sometimes it takes some seconds until the splash
screen disappears and mail layout is shown.

What's the reason for it, or what can I do to avoid this annoying delay?

Downloading maybe? Just how long is "some seconds" and how much mail might
it be downloading?

If that happens shortly after startup, then the system might actually be
busy doing something else.
