!!"Starting up problems please help"!!

i have windows xp pro installed and am runing a 1.2 ghz amd duron with 256
mb ram but the bloody thing takes ages to start up

the operating system starts up as usual put i cannot click any thing or do
any thing other than go to windows task manager it take about 5 - 10 minutes
for it to gatpast this stage then the computer works fine.
another thing i have notices is that in windows task manager un der
processes i see usuually 5 svchost.exe 's running what are these and can i
or should i stop them somehow?

Watcha!

Don't try and stop the svchost.exe processes, this is your PC's services
such as networking and the like.

Why don't you look in your event viewer as it sounds like a service is
taking a long time (if at all) to start up. Go to the Start>Run and type in
eventvwr.msc. You will see the log file that windows creates when there are
problems or sometimes not even problems just notifications. Click on the
System log and in the right hand pane and see if you have any red icons or
yellow warning icons which occur at about the time your PC is starting.
This may give you a clue as to what is causing the slow start up.

You might want to check msconfig (Startup tab) from the Start>Run too to see
if there is anything terrible in there like loads and loads of programs
starting up.
