Please Help: My Start-up Folder Won't Start-up!

Hello. Okay, this is what happened. Somehow I moved my Start-up folder (the
one in which you can place programs that will also boot-up when you log on)
out of the program list (at the START list) and I ended-up with a duplicate
one. So I tried to get rid of the new one -- and ended up with yet another.
And so on. I managed somehow to delete what I thought were the extra ones,
but the one I have left in the START list doesn't work -- that is, the
programs I put in it will NOT load automatically when I sign on.
Now I check the location of this one remaining "Start-up" folder under
Properities and it appears to be the same as the original one. But still the
programs in it won't load when I start-up.
Now, there are two *other* user partitions on my PC and the Start-up folders
work fine in them, that is, the load the programs in them when those user
sides start. I even tried moving one of those good folders to my user side,
but it still didn't load the programs in it when I started-up my side, *SIGH*
So, how the heck to I get a *WORKING* Start-up folder working in my
user-partition. And how do I get rid of any duplicates that might occure --
if I can get a working Start-up folder -- without killing the one that *is*
working?!
Help please with sugar on it! *Thanks much!* --gxn1

To take the guesswork out of your post, do this:
- Click Start / Run
- Type the three letters cmd
- Click the OK button
- Type this command *verbatim*:
cd /d "%Userprofile%\start menu\programs\startup"
You are now in the active startup folder. Are your startup programs there?
What exactly are they?
