Starting computer

Monday my computer just shut down. When I started it
back up, I got a black screen with a message to select
either F1 or F2 -- one of the options was for a reboot.
The F1 didn't work, the F2 works only when I have my
Windows XP CD. My computer will not turn on and boot up
without the XP CD. I did a system restore from the
system tools, but still need the CD to boot up. What's
up? Is it XP? All my other programs are on the system.
I have Norton virus protector which is updated regularly.

I was not connected to the internet when this first
happened. Can you help?
