Starting an Application Automatically

Greetings,

Thanks for all the help from this newsgroup!
Previously I used only the Minlogon component, but changed to Winlogon to
simplify connecting to a share on a networked computer. I use to be able to
automatically start my application when the XPe booted up. Now the
application only starts automatically when I log in as Administrator. I have
a user account on the machine also, and this account is set to automatically
log in, not the Administrators.

To start the application automatically, I added a registry key
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run ..key and application path.
This worked fine until moving to the Winlogon. Is there something special or
simple that I can do to automatically start my application when the user is
logged in?
Thanks for the help!

Joe,

I'm using the Explorer Shell, but in my case, all that I needed to do was to
put the file in the "\Documennts and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup" folder.

Hi Richard,

I don't think that I'm using the explorer shell. I end up at the
c:\windows\system32 prompt after the machine is done booting. My application
would normally start at this point. I can start explorer by typing explorer
and then place a shortcut to my program in the Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Startup folder, but it still does not start the program
after I re-boot. Also, I have to log in as Administrator to save any changes
to the C: drive using ewfmgr before rebooting as a user. Any ideas?

Thanks again KM! The link got me running. I ended up having to add my program
to the end of the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit = C:\windows\fba\fba.exe -run,
myprogram.exe.

Glad it helped.

Yup, quite frankly, I always prefer using userinit key to launch my apps on Minlogon images. That way I don't have to think about
whether FBA or shell is going to take care of the launch.
