StartDocPrinter call not issued

Have a 3 PC home network. 2 Win98SE and one WinXPPro

Have a BJC2100 on one Win98 and a HP687C on the other.

Have been off the XP since Charley came through. Fired up
yesterday and home network was not functioning. Ran Wizard
and got network and Internet Sharing, The Win98 with
BJC2100 is on the host.
The Win XP is client. That works but says 5 boxes sharing
when I have 3 but that is another issue

Anyway when I try to print from the WinXP via either of the
shared printers I get a Error as stated in subject.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled both printers in the WinXP
box and they say are OK and ready but won't print.

I note that auto update has added 14 files in the
CP/Add-remove labeled SP2 so assume it was downloaded and
installed w/o permission since I have Auto update set to
ask before installing and it didn't

Were printing before August 13

Figure it is in SP2.

Thinking of using a restore point before that date and
turning off auto update.

Ideas or solutions.

TIA

Len

If you have 14 hotfixes listed in Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, you
almost certainly do not have Service Pack 2 installed.

The hotfixes have SP2 in their name because the problems those hotfixes
solve are also fixed in Service Pack 2.

When SP2 is actually installed, those hotfixes will not show up in Add or
Remove programs any more.

Another way to tell is:
click Start
right click My Computer
select Properties

If Service Pack 2 is actually installed, it will say so under "System:".

Also, you can not uninstall SP2 by using System Restore.

See if the info at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=121074 helps.
