I have tried to stop this "where do you want to go today" wav from chiming
on start up and substitute it with another wav file but it wont go away.
Have selected "None" in the "Start Windows" line in the sound tab in the
"Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" but it still there on start up! Have
even deleted the wav file but it's stubbornly refuses the shut up :)
When I select another wav for that spot XP plays *both* wavs. Can anyone
tell me where this wav is lurking? TIA :)

remains.

Any chance that it comes from a different program? Comcast, for
instance?

I suppose you might check RUN msconfig, start tab to see if anything
is starting up that comes accompanied by a .wav file.

Have you used Find to locate this .wav file or to see if it has a
similar-named same-sized clone? You'd need to designate the advanced
settings as well.

hmmm, checked msconfig and no wav files there but MusicMatch (I subscribe to
most of their services) might have cloned it. I'll do some digging and
report back. Thanks for your help in this earth shaking problem :)

Nope! Even configured "Search" to search hidden files with negative
results. The file might have been renamed somehow but it *is* specific to
start-up sooo it's got to be there somewhere.
