START UP

starting XP i get as far as the windows welcome screen
then the computer locks up, trying to start in safe mode
(with or without command prompt)it goes as far as
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)windows\system32
\drivers\mup.sys. after which the computer stops
responding... ive tried booting from cdrom and
reinstalling (repairing) windows, but keep getting the
same problem, any suggestions???????

Sorry to say but I had a similar problem about a year and
a half ago and the only fix was to clean install.

If you've got data on the hard drive that is absolutely
crucial, take out the hard drive and connect it to
another computer. From there you can either temporarily
store it on the other computer or burn it onto CDs.

As for getting your comp up and running again, do a clean
install (i.e. delete ALL partitions, format ALL
partitions, make the WinXP partition NTFS, and install).

Hope this helps (and that you don't loose anything
important).
