Start-up Errors

S

S.J. @ CCCurves

Every time we turn the computer on we get three error
messages! The first one is:

Windows cannot find 'c:\WINDOWS\dllreg.exe.' Make sure
you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To
search for a file, click the Start button, and then click
Search.

Underneath this message is the following message:

Windows cannot find 'c:\WINDOWS\System32\vxdmgr32.exe.'
Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try
again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and
then click Search.

Before we can see the 2nd message, however, after
clicking "OK" to the 1st message, we get THIS message:

<Bar Title> Desktop
Could not load or run 'c:\WINDOWS\dllreg.exe' specified
in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your
computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.

I contacted Dell & they told me to run the critical
updates, but I have run all the critical updates and
restarted the computer, but still got all the same
messages!

Thanks for the advice!!

Go to run and type sfc /scannow , (note space between c and / ) Insert XP
disk when prompted. This will repair / install system files. Jym

After re-researching my system files I have found out that the two named
files are not part of my XP system files , ( originally I thought I had
located one, but in fact it was worded slightly different ) sorry for the
misinformation. Wesley Vogel's post is correct and a virus is indeed your
problem. Jym
