start up errors

I have downloaded updates to Xp Professional. During one
session my computer froze up and I had to cancel the
update. I now have 2 problems. On startup I
get "CTL3D32.DLL is not the correct version it is
designed for windows 95" prompt. Why/ How can I get rid
of this issue.

Second The update recognizes my computer and will not let
me load the updates again. It thinks they were already
done.

Help.

Hi Dave,

1) Start/run "sfc /scannow" and have your WinXP CD handy.

2) Locate the WindowsUpdate.log file under \Windows or \Winnt. Open it and
scroll to the bottom. Look at the error codes and compare them against this
site:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
