Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file.

Sounds like your system is infected with spyware which may have disabled
regedit with a security policy. If you have the Pro Edition you can reverse
the policy in Start\Run\gpedit\in User Configuration\Management
Templates\System\Enable "Disallow access to registry edition tools".
If you have the Home edition of XP, copy text from this webpage and paste it
to a text file and save the file with name "Enable or disable the
RegEdit.vbs (in .vbs format), and run it once to enable "regedit".

To disinfect your system, scan with Adaware SE, Spybot Search & Destroy,
CWShredder, The Cleaner and as last resort use HijackThis with the create
log option and post it in the appropriate forum for assistance identifying
the results.

Some malware creates a "dummy" regedit.com file to prevent you from running
the registry editor...

"com" runs before "exe" if the extension is not specified

do a drive search for regedit.com and if exists ...delete it

otherwise try the full name start , run, regedit.exe

try to type cmd, which will take you to the Dos command, then type regedit.
Normally not necessary but it does also works this way.

Hi Steve,
Download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many
forums for analysis and troubleshooting:
When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.

It sounds like the "Run" command is disabled by a group policy and spyware
do that, so make absoloutely sure your system is not infected, run several
antispyware programs. Also check the registry, for a policy value which may
named "DisableRegistryTools" in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Possible locations for a "DisableRegistryTools" value are:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\policies (preferred location)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\policies (preferred location)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies

To see the KB articles in english, add a slash and "en" at the end of the
URL.
