Rolf G.

Hello everybody

We have a problem by starting some word templates. On some computers the
start of a certain template takes very long (>3 sec.). The same template I
did start on another workstation, but there the start goes very quickly.

We use Word 2003.

Does anybody know why the differences of the startes of the templates are or
has anybody experience in this case.

Tnx for your help.

Greetings from Switzerland.

Rolf

Hi Rolf!

Check to see if you have Norton Antivirus, AVG or another antivirus solution
that is set to scan documents on startups. That's the usual cause of the slow
behavior.

It's also occasionally related to your dictation software addins. If so,
check their website for the fix.

If you are using Windows Vista, then just add some RAM memory...

Now if you have a damaged template, do this:

Start > run
type
winword.exe /a
(you must insert the space before the /a)
<enter>

Does it open faster? This is word in safe mode.

If it works, it usually means damaged extension or word template.

If it opens quickly now, search for and delete normal.dot

If that does not work, Start > run
regedit
<enter>

navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

Right-click the Data folder and select Edit

Rename the folder to OLDDATA

Close the registry

Reboot

Try Word again.

If Word now works, you can go in and delete OLDDATA (a new data key will
have been created). If Word does not work at all, go back in, delete the
newly created DATA key, then rename OLDDATA to DATA again.

Cheers,
AL

Hi Alborg.

Tnx for your quick answer. I have a date at wednesdey I will check this an
the certain computer. On every workstation ist Trend-Micro Office-Scan
installed.
But between PC "A" (bad one) and PC "B" (good one) is in case of the
anti-virus no difference. We already deleted normal.dot. Probably the
template (not normal.dot) does search in background some directories. I'm
actualy not sure, if this is just in that specific template or computer-wide.

Can you tell me, for what the entries in the registry folder "data" are?

Bye, bye. Rolf
