Start Menu's "Start Search" Text Box

In XP and previous version of Windows, I would keep a number of program
shortcuts in the Start Menu so that I could quickly open programs by pressing
the Windows button on the keyboard and then typing the first letter of the
program I wanted to open. Because Vista has added the "Start Search" text
box in the Start Menu, it seems I can no longer do this, unless there is some
way to get rid of this "Start Search" text box. Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex--

You could shortcut to the program and pin it to start but you don't need to
in Vista. You could make a run box out of your IE address bar and plant it
into the taskbar by right clicking the taskbar>toolbars>address (unlock
taskbar). You could learn the shortcuts to your programs and start most of
them from the run box, but you don't need to.

That search box you want to kick to the curb is one of the best and most
powerful Vista features. Type any program name in it and it will most
likely show up at the top of the start menu.

Also frequently used or recently used programs will show up as shortcuts on
your start menu.
