start menu

Hello. My start menu used to be alphabetized, but now when I install new programs, they go to the end of the list instead of being inserted alphabetically. How can I get them to be listed alphabetically? Also, how can I redo my start menu to put more programs under one heading, instead of all of them being listed individually? My list of programs is getting too long. Is there a way to arrange it more like the "favorites" menu? If so, how? Thanks.

For the first question; R-click anything on the list and choose "sort by
name". The second question takes a bit more explanation. R-click "Start" and
choose "Explore all users". Under each user, you will find a listing
"start>programs". Open the programs folder and you can create new folders
and drag whatever you want to the new folder. Name the new folder something
appropriate, for instance, I have a folder named Office. I have all my
Office applications in it. When the cursor hovers over the entry, a fly-out
lists all the Office applications in the folder. I have 8 items showing in
the "All Programs" menu, everything is categorized in fly-out menus.

Right click Start button
Select Explore and/or Explore All Users.
Then open the Programs folder.
Create new subfolders then rearrange shortcuts.

OR

You can also configure your programs list to scroll which results in one large
column.
Right-click the Start button
Go to Properties
Click the Customize button.
Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll through the list until you see the item "Scroll Programs".
Check that and hit OK.

Alphabetizing your Start Menu

1. First click on the start button

2. Move your mouse to "All Programs"

3. Move your mouse to any of the folders there

4. Right Click

5. A box will open up, scroll to "Sort By Names" and click

Thanks a lot, your info helped. I did the drag and drop into the folder thing, and that worked great. Problem is, only about 1/3rd of the programs in my start menu showed up in that screen (or directory or whatever it's called). So I was able to organize those, but I still have over 20 other programs in my start menu I want to organize into folders. I don't understand why all the programs didn't show up in that screen. Although I've been downloading all my recent programs into a "download" folder, instead of defaulting them into "program files". Is that the problem? If so, how can I organize the rest of my programs in my start menu? Thanks for any help you can give.
