How do you have the columns in the start menu auto expand so you don't have
to hit the arrows? How also do you have them not be shaded and unshaded?

Right-click the "Task Bar", then on the "General" tab uncheck "Use
Personalized Menus"

Need more details on what is shaded.

Thank You Dave,
when you go to say..start programs, some of the programs are lighter than
others. I read somewhere it is a feature to let you know what programs have
been added to the start menu or what programs you use the most but cannot (Of
course) find the article again. How do you make these listing in the start
menu all appear the same shade? Hope this info is what you needed to help me.

Your link applies to Windows XP I have windows 2000. do you have another
