Start Menu: sort programs alphabetically: How?

R

Raymond

In XP it is possible to drag and drop programs or right-click and sort
by name, but with Vista neither of these are possible.

With 30 items it becomes essential.

Thanks.
Raymond.

I would think it is:

Control Panel>>Appearance And Personalization>>Taskbar And Start
Menu>>Customize the Start Menu>>Sort All Programs Menu by Name should be
checked.

No. "All Programs" is sorted, but the Start Menu items are not.

Are you talking about the menu items in the top/left section of the Start
Menu? If so, you cannot sort these automatically, you can drag those to any
order you wish.

If you can indeed "you can drag those to any order you wish." then I would
personally like to know the trick. It sure doesn't do it for me.(

It drag/drops them to the nearest item to the mouse when the item is
dropped.

It does not sort.

This should be a simple drag and drop in that section of the start menu. The
top/left section of the start menu are where items are located that you have
'pinned' to the start menu. You have to be using the the Vista start menu,
this doesn't work on the 'classic' start menu. You can 'pin' any program
shortcut by right clicking the shoertcut and selecting the 'Pin to start
menu' command.

That was exactly what I said?

It drag/drops them onto the nearest item, opens the 'drop-to' program
and that program tries to open the dropped program shortcut as a document.

It does not change the order of the item.

Wow! That is strange. I am very familiar with this process from using XP.
I SWEAR I did this SEVERAL times during my initial setting up of Vista. I
tried again today and now it is working just fine. *scratching head in deep
thought* I didn't have it in "classic" mode before so......????? Either
way. A great relief that it is working now. :c) Thanks so much Ronnie.
You must have some "magic". ;c)

I'm very glad this is working for you now.
